The Marchesini Group fragrance packaging line, state-of-the-art for the world cosmetics packaging market, operates at a speed of 120 products per minute and consists of the following machines: the Neri RA800 rotary labeller, the MA255L cartoner and the new MF912 wrapper/bundler.

The RA800, at the start of the line, has the features of RA series rotary labellers developed by Neri, a Marchesini Group partner. These are new concept machines, sturdy, flexible and ready to win over the cosmetics and pharmaceuticals market: labellers built by developing the RO design, a success in the cosmetics industry thanks to its flexibility, sturdiness, efficiency and the reliability of the checks. These machines have an innovative cylinder design which has allowed removal of the central tower, significantly improving the view for inspection of the labelling process, machine ergonomics and conformity with cGMP standards. Also, the possibility of installing brushless motors for conveyor plate rotation, together with the multi-application feature already present on the RO series, guarantees unprecedented flexibility. The RA800, specially designed for the cosmetics market, guarantees extremely high precision label application on one or both faces of oval bottles. The labeller has a system for product orientation using a photocell fitted on the cylinder which guarantees a very reliable labelling process. The innovative elevator provides maximum labelling precision on products of various sizes in “closed” product holders. There are also practical sliding covers on the rear and a lift-up cover for the carrousel.

At this point the labelled products reach the MA255 continuous-motion horizontal cartoner, built entirely with a balcony structure, based on three concepts: versatility, ergonomics and maximum efficiency with compact dimensions. Its features make it the ideal solution for packaging both pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Main features: all of the feed units are located in ergonomic positions and the mechanical components in an oil bath guarantee reduced maintenance and low noise. The size change-over is fast and easy and can be carried out completely from the front of the machine, whilst the Touch Screen operator interface allows all machine functions to be managed and varied. The machine has a self-diagnosis function, a “Help” function to rapidly and safely correct any faults and the possibility of feeding the leaflet (option), either pre-folded or using an automatic folder in a position the operator has access to. There is a wide choice of marking systems: embossing, ink-jet, laser (optional).

The machine has state-of-the-art automated equipment and safety systems. The automatic operating cycle only calls the carton and leaflet if the product is present. There are also various checks:

• the product – carton – leaflet presence cross-check;
• product – carton – leaflet minimum load check;
• carton correct erection check;
• leaflet presence check before insertion in the carton;
• mechanical product pusher safety check.

The MA255 has an overload safety system on the main mechanical components and full guards with large doors for easy access.

At the end of the perfume line is the MF912, the new-version wrapping/bundling machine from Marchesini Group for packaging cosmetics, that is to say, all products such as perfumes which require careful wrapping and high production speeds.
The product is fed using lateral belts which accompany the cartons as far as the lifting zone, avoiding any friction against machine mechanical parts.
The wrapping film sealing system is particularly precise.
The sealing plate pads can be shaped to give the seal itself a very attractive appearance, an essential feature in the cosmetics sector, even when handling square cartons.
The objectives of the new wrapper/bundler design, like those for other existing versions, include easy size change-over. The line operator can perform the tool-free size change-over. The interface PC allows easy, rapid control of the machine by the line operator. The machine’s balcony structure means that every part of it is completely accessible and cleaning is easy. All machine movements are robotised and controlled by brushless motors.
