COMBI-1SD AND UNICA 220 LINE: AN IDEAL SOLUTION FOR THE PACKAGING OF SYRINGES
News, Product news
Marchesini’s syringe packaging line on show at Interpack will consist of two machines: COMBI-1SD, a machine manufactured by Corima - the company of the Marchesini Group skilled in injectable forms - able to assemble pre-plungered and labelled syringes into Safety Devices - and Unica 220, which integrates the deep draw thermoforming and the carton packaging processes in a single monobloc unit.
COMBI-1SD building principles together with Corima’s technological innovations guarantee high quality, simplicity of use and make it a perfect solution for the pharmaceutical field requirements.
COMBI-1SD is able to work with any type of Safety Device, requires minimum space for installation and offers a flexible interfacing with downstream and upstream machines. Brushless motorizations are designed for the various functions of the machine allowing the widest operative management.
After being assembled, syringes reach Unica 220 line. The use of the most advanced robotics both upstream, during product feeding into the thermoformed tray and downstream to the monobloc, during the transfer of the tray to the cartoner, allows this line to package not only syringes but a wide variety of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products at high speeds, up to 220 syringes per minute, in a footprint of only 8 meters.
The keywords that inspired the development of Unica 220 are compactness, easy-to-use and great flexibility thanks to the employment of robotics.
Unica is manufactured entirely with balcony structure, which guarantees the separation between the mechanical section and the working area, and thus the absolute sterility of the products processed in total compliance with GMP standards in terms of packaging. Outstanding perfect visibility and accessibility of all stations and groups make the line very easy to clean.
The product and cartons are conveyed by positive belts, while the cartons are picked up and opened by oscillating arms. The wide forming area (pitch of 160 mm) and the depth up to 28 mm are features hard to find on machines of the same “size”.
Independent servo motors for main transmission, material transport and cut allow the management of parameters and the size changeover from the operator panel through dedicated menus.
The machine has been designed to manage all the operations - such as the carton and leaflet loading - in one access area. The use of a shared PC for the two sections, the thermoformer and the cartoner, and the installation of one operator panel ensure a faster management of the entire line, thanks to the possibility of recalling very easily all the set parameters. Special attention has been paid to size changing, which is performed without using tools, thanks to quick-release couplings and locking handles in combination with machine PC management.
Secret is the use of patented and made-in-house robotics
The Unica’s main innovation regards the integration of two Robovision, the patented four-axis robot by the Marchesini Group that has revolutionized the packaging of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products in the last ten years. Compared to the conventional infeed systems, less versatile and slower, the Robovision are indeed capable of picking-up and handling individual products of any shape and size from a belt and feeding them to both the thermoformer and the cartoner.
Thanks to the employment of robotics, Unica 220 can handle ampoules, vials, cartridges, syringes as well as other products such as small tubes, dispensers and combination of products in thermoformed trays. Depending on the customer’s needs, it is possible to customize the feeding systems such as the division of the vibrating table in two halves to supply different products, such as ampoules and vials, in the same tray, or the Z version (Zero Cross Waste), a greener and economical machine due to the reduction of waste.
The second Robovision transfers the trays into the carton. Also in this case, the use of robotics eliminates intermediate passages thus saving changeover time and related costs. In addition, it allows a greater protection of the package, the direct stacking of the trays into the cartoner buckets and also the possibility to orient the products aligning them in specific packs in order to fully exploit the format volume.
