MILLENNIUM 120 AND MA 155: A PERFECT COMBO TO FILL AND PACK SQUEEZABLE TUBES
News, Product news
One of the two lines for packaging cosmetic products on show at Interpack is made up of the Millennium 120, a single-channel linear automatic filling and closing machine for metal, plastic and laminate tubes, and the MA 155, a continuous motion horizontal cartoner.
The construction principles and innovative concepts of the Millennium tube filler series are: balcony design for utmost accessibility from the back and from the operator side, user friendliness, maximum closing and coding precision and rapid, straightforward tool-free size change-over. These features make the Millennium 120 the ideal packaging solution for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals (even in a sterile environment).
The line is loaded with plastic squeezable tubes and runs at a mechanical speed of up to 120 tubes per minute.
The Jumbo feeder individually separates and lifts the tubes up to the machine chute inlet.
The tubes are then placed in their individual pucks by means of a tilter driven by a servo motor, which then holds the tubes pneumatically until they have been completely inserted into the conveyor.
The positioner is equipped with a brushless motor to position the tubes using an eye mark on the upper circumference of the tube or a bar code.
The tubes are cleaned internally by plunging nozzles that blow air, a PALL filter that filters the compressed air and a vacuum pump that collects the particles blown from inside the tubes.
A brushless motor-controlled movement lifts the pucks with the tubes toward the dosing nozzle so that the tubes are filled perfectly right from the bottom. This operating method prevents the formation of air pockets inside the tube, even when handling difficult products and at high speeds.
The filling unit uses a rotary valve made of stainless steel 316L and a suitable cylinder/piston. The rigid connection of all the filling units ensures the best possible dosing tolerances.
Millennium 120 is designed for the simultaneous installation of metal and hot air closing systems, with two main advantages: possibility of switching from one closing group to the other in just a few minutes, reducing size change-over times and no need to access a cleaning area with the mechanical units dismantled.
Millennium 120 is equipped with a hot air sealing unit, capable of sealing tubes between 10 and 50 mm in diameter and between 50 and 250 mm in height. A water cooling system cools the end of the tube after sealing and before trimming.
MA 155 is a continuous motion horizontal cartoner, whose strongholds are versatility and ergonomics. This machine is able to package different types of products such as vials, small tubes and sachets in different carton shapes, and to feed various items, such as booklets, spoons, pipettes etc., using a wide range of feeding systems and the latest generation of robotized solutions patented by the Marchesini Group, such as Robocombi and Robovision. Balcony design, small footprint and reliability make MA 155 a compact and flexible solution, perfect for both the cosmetic and pharmaceutical packaging industries.
The carton magazine is lower than the product conveyor. This ergonomic position makes it easier to load the cartons and to clean it, without any carton dust falling onto the product or onto the mechanical parts. Changeover is fast and easy, thanks to the possibility to make adjustments, on the operator side, instead of having to replace the parts. The use of digital indicators makes changeover operations quick, accurate and repeatable.
The carton is inserted directly into the transport chain, without any other steps in-between. During transfer, the cartons are held in place and fed smoothly thanks to a motorized carton magazine system, which guarantees constant feeding and optimal pick-up and opening.
A very compact opening system opens the carton by means of an oscillating arm, thus preserving carton quality, even at high speeds. The product is inserted by a pusher which, by continuous motion, pushes the product into the carton toward the operator side, guaranteeing speed and maximum product visibility. Throughout the whole packaging cycle, some automatic devices perform cross-checks to verify carton presence and its correct opening, as well as the presence of the product and leaflet inside it. Rejects - cartons, products and leaflets - are collected into different boxes.
