Marchesini Group and Bologna Business School join forces again with the second edition of the MBA for employees

Today, 34 employees of Marchesini Group – the majority gathered in the main lecture hall of the Bologna Business School, some connected from home – attended the launch of the second edition of the Master’s in Business Administration at BBS, one of the leading schools of advanced management training in Europe.

The kick-off – economic jargon for the launch of the master’s degree, which is the first to be inaugurated in 2022 on the Villa Guastavillani campus – took place before the management of BBS and Marchesini Group, who met for the first time in 2020 for this advanced training project. The goal, today just as it was then, is to invest in employees and allow them to acquire new, cross-cutting skills in order to understand a work world that is evolving at unpredictable speeds.

Much like the pilot class, which graduated in September, the current class of employees who will graduate in July 2023 is also diverse in age, education, position, and company tenure. The demographics range from the very young, recently hired under-30s, to under-40s with over 10 years of internal service. Their training and positions within the company are similar: the class predominantly comprises mechanical engineers, managers and IT technicians  who deal with software, research and development, after-sales, logistics, manufacturing and robotics, as well as administrative and sales professionals.

Most of the Group’s 30 divisions and subsidiaries have been involved: some employees come from the Sienese company Corima, which specializes in aseptic packaging (it developed the technology used for packaging the Covid vaccines); from the Tuscan company Neri, a world leader in labelling technologies; from the Carpi-based company Blister & Farcon, an expert in blister packaging technologies; and from the Proteo and P.M.M. brands, which specialise in automation and the manufacture of industrial isolators.

During the individual presentation, the new ‘ freshers’ set numerous goals for this and the next year of study: knowledge upgrades, a more integrated approach to work, enriched interpersonal relationships, the acquisition of cross-disciplinary knowledge and professional growth.

After the presentation by Dean Massimo Bergami – who also announced plans to build a new campus next to the current site – Marchesini Group chairman Maurizio Marchesini told the audience: “We realize that this will be a challenging process since it must be conducted alongside work and personal dynamics”. “However, the company” Marchesini stressed, “has no alternative to growth: this is why we need people who are trained and have the tools to deal with a technological and social change that is more accelerated than ever”.

The CEO of the Marchesini Group, Pietro Cassani, emphasised the strategic importance of developing independent and innovative thinking among future hires, quoting the philosopher Norberto Bobbio on the importance of remaining humble: at the end of his career, Bobbio, after having taught so much to so many, said he was still at the roots of the tree of knowledge.

Finally, Valentina Marchesini, HR manager at Marchesini Group, spoke about the opportunity for participants to take advantage of this special occasion to step out of their comfort zone and embrace new and different experiences.
