DEPARTMENT OF THE ARTS – ARCHIVIO DEL CANTO

2019 contribution: 5,000 euro
Support for funding of a “research grant”

Archivio del Canto was set up in 2009 based on an idea of Professor Marco Beghelli to promote and increase the legacy of the Arts Department Library (University of Bologna) in the operatic section, from the origins to current times. The archive contains hard-to-find publications that are generally neglected by libraries: historical accounts of vocal styles, dissertations on vocal techniques, monographs of singers, historic accounts of theatres, discographies, etc. Alongside resources in terms of books, significant attention is devoted to collections of documents and audio recordings that testify to the career of historic artists: photographs, contracts, reviews, posters, letters, audio and video recordings. All the digitalised and catalogued documentary material is intended to stimulate the production of new studies, in the form of graduation dissertations and publications on vocal techniques, and through the organisation of specific events. Marchesini Group decided to sponsor the Department for two years, starting in 2019, funding research grants for young students in the sector and all areas concerning research activities (production of new publications, bibliographic purchases, missions for research and participation in symposia, events, etc.).
